Technical data/parameters of the venue's sports component

The "Rosa Khutor" Extreme Park & Freestyle Center consists of two stadiums where events will be held. Both stadiums include Snowboard and Freestyle skiing events. The stadiums are nicknamed HAM (Halfpipe, Aerials, Moguls) and PSX (Parallel, Slopestyle, Cross).

The competitions will include the following events – all events where medals will be awarded during the Olympic Games in 2014.

Slopestyle:

  • Height of start - 1162 m
  • Height of finish - 1015 m
  • Course length - 565 m
  • Vertical drop - 147 m
  • Incline - 15.6°

The events take place on a course consisting of a series of ski jumps (big-airs) and jibbing structures (such as fun boxes and rails), with two descent lines. The width of the course is 25-35 m.

Snowboard Cross:

  • Height of start – 1228 m
  • Height of finish - 1015 m
  • Course length - 1100 m
  • Vertical drop - 213 m
  • Incline - 12°

Snowboard Cross competitions are held on a special course that must have various features on its surface: waves, ski jumps, spines and turns. The number and locations of these structures is determined by the course designer, but there must be as many different ways to do them as possible, so that the athletes are constantly accelerating as they complete the course.

Parallel Slalom:

  • Height of start - 1100 m
  • Height of finish - 1015 m
  • Course length - 320 m
  • Vertical drop - 85 m
  • Incline - 17.4°

In the parallel slalom, two skiers simultaneously ski down two courses positioned close to one another. The courses situated near one another must be as closely matched as possible in the following parameters: relief, snow covering, number of turns etc. The minimum number of turns is 18.

Parallel giant slalom:

  • Height of start - 1194 m
  • Height of finish - 1015 m
  • Course length - 689 m
  • Vertical drop - 179 m
  • Incline - 15.6°

The two snowboarders start on identical parallel courses, featuring a large number of sharp turns, and try to get to the finish first. One of the courses is marked out with red flags, and the other with blue flags. The number of turns on the course is between 25 and 30. The width of the course is 40 meters.

Half-pipe:

  • Height of start – 1103 м
  • Height of finish – 1022 м
  • Length of course – 234 м
  • Vertical drop - 81 м
  • Incline - 18°

The course for the half-pipe events is a snowy chute reminiscent of a pipe that has been split in two along its length. As they slide across the pipe from one side to the other, the athletes execute jumps, turns and other acrobatic elements on the sides of the pipe. The length of the half-pipe is 165 meters. Its width from one side to the other is 21 meters.
